The game was up for grabs. Davis just happened to be the team that grabbed the most of the 10 combined fumbles Thursday night.
A slight coat of rain slicked the turf in the second half ? hardly enough explanation for the zany turnover-fest between the Darts and visiting Cottonwood. But despite slowing down offensively in the second half, Davis found the big plays it needed in a 23-12 win over the Colts.

From a 40-yard touchdown run to a 100-yard fumble return, the Darts seized their big moments. But the Davis defense was equally proud of holding a highly touted offense to only a pair of touchdowns. Although Alabama-committed quarterback Cooper Bateman threw for 262 yards, two final drives couldn?t break through the defense.
"He?s tough ? he?s fast, he can throw, it?s what you look for in a quarterback," said Davis lineman Kawika Tuopuola, who had a sack. "I couldn?t be any prouder of how we shut them down like we did. Big props to my defense. I?m ecstatic."
The Darts took a 13-6 halftime lead with a grinding running performance by Gage Cook and Parker Rose. Cook put Davis on the board with a 40-yard break through the middle in the first quarter. He also reached the end zone on a short drive after a Cottonwood punt attempt went awry.
But the Colts defense stiffened in the second half, allowing only 65 yards of offense. Chance Parker kept the momentum going their way with a fumble return from his own end zone to Cottonwood?s. The fumble was one of three by running back Gabe Hosea in only a six-minute span.
Cottonwood swiftly executed an 80-yard drive on its opening possession, but struggled to recapture the intial spark. Inoke Lotulelei kept the Colts alive by making 13 of the team?s 23 receptions for 146 yards. A 17-yard hookup between Bateman and Lotulelei drew the Colts within eight points.
But Cottonwood could not recover ? its final two drives stalled, and Davis put a field goal on the board for insurance. The Colts inexplicably attempted a field goal for their last meaningful play of the game despite being down 11.
Cook didn?t question his team?s fortune, saying the win showed progress for the Darts.
"It shows that we belong with the bigger teams out here," Cook said. "It was a fun night. Nothing better than seeing a winning score on the board."
